Crafted from 100% Flambeaux Dry Creek Valley estate-grown fruit, the 2016 Flambeaux Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was aged in 100% new French oak for a bold, spicy wine that will lay down for years. Aromas of blackberry, dark chocolate, and tea leaf abound in this Platinum Medal awarded Flambeaux Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Black currant, dried herbs, and a hint of minerality pour over the firm yet textured palate. Only 50 cases were produced.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Aromas of blackberry, dark chocolate, and tea leaf abound in the in the first vintage of Flambeaux Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. On the palate, the mountain fruit flavor really shows itself with great mid-palate body, chewy tannins, and beautiful all-spice finish.
Vineyard Profile
Located high in the hills of the Southeastern tip of Alexander Valley sits the Toby Lane Vineyard. Tucked back off of Chalk Hill Road in a pocket of tight valleys, Toby Lane opens up to a rolling hillside where Cabernet Sauvignon is grown for our Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The gravelly clay loam soil profile is fairly thin and wines from this ranch tend to have nice, firm tannins with a darker fruit profile.
Production Notes
2017 was a year that will be forever imprinted into our lives in Sonoma County. The catastrophic fires that hit us in early October impacted everyone in our county, and we are so very thankful for the work that our first-responders and volunteers did to help and support our community at this horrific time. We were fortunate that all of our fruit was already picked prior to the fires commencing. As for the growing season, 2017 was an exciting vintage that threw a lot of curve balls. We ended up having record rainfalls during the 2016/2017 winter season where our rivers flowed heavily and refilled the dams after years of drought conditions. This welcome turn allowed the soils to be thoroughly saturated and gave us a wonderful jumping off point. Temperatures during fruit set were on the cooler side and they occurred more into a "normal" time of year (as opposed to previous years of very early beginning of ripening). At the end of August into early September, we received a handful of 100+ degree days that required some patience and hand-wringing but ultimately we were happy with the decision to hold tight, give the fruit some water and let them recover and continue to ripen on the vine.
Winemaker Notes
This is the first vintage of the Flambeaux Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, and we're thrilled to share this new wine with you. We sourced the fruit from the far Eastern portion of Alexander Valley off of Chalk Hill Road in a vineyard set back in the rolling hills. Composed of a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Flambeaux Alexander Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a wonderful darker fruit and heavier tannin structure in a wonderful counterpoint to the more classical red-fruit profile of the Flambeaux Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. ~ Winemaker Ryan Prichard
